Borders
The Situation
Monitoring international borders is becoming an increasingly important task for many governments. The reasons behind illegal border crossings may vary from politics to economics, and it is clear that the more desperate the situation, the more illegal crossing will occur.
El-Far understands the challenges of border and perimeter security within the homeland security environment because its head office is based in Israel. The company recognizes the need to counter a range of illegal cross-border activities whilst successfully managing the legitimate flow of people and assets.
The Challenge
Securing borders is a daunting task due to the sheer distance that has to be covered. In addition, rugged and remote terrains and waterways, which are “hotspots” for illicit border crossings, increase the scope of the challenge. While global terrorism is considered a major threat, other activities such as smuggling, economic migration, and sabotage, are threats that need to be addressed. This point is highlighted by a recent incident where smugglers removed two mesh panels from U.S.-Mexico border fencing and then replaced them so it appeared that they had not been tampered with.
The Solution
El-Far’s integrated intrusion detection and protection solutions include smart electronic fencing solutions and advanced sensors (Seismic, Ultrasonic and IR). This system reduces the workload on personnel responsible for monitoring major border areas by permanently monitoring existing fences and giving clear notifications and exact locations when a border breach is recorded.
The systems also includes radars, cameras (day/night), biometrics, hydraulic barriers, and gates among others. These solutions meet the full spectrum of security challenges facing borders and have been successfully deployed in a multitude of projects around the world.
